Sunday School
Want to learn more? How about going to school on a Sunday! We will meet 6 times over the summer from 9-9:50AM on Jun 14, Jun 28, Jul 12, Jul 26, Aug 2, Aug 16. Childcare will be available so sign up soon!
Anatomy of the Soul: Christian Conversations about Mental Health (taught by Scott Thornhill & Michael Durso) This class is a book study of Curt Thompson's Anatomy of the Soul. Curt Thompson is a Christian psychiatrist and therapist with special focus on biblically faithful integration of Christian faith and psychology. Through the book and our discussions we will introduce some basic concepts related to mental health, such as emotions, attachment, some basic neurobiology, as well as how to understand mental health issues from a Christian perspective (is mental illness a spiritual problem with psychological results or a psychological problem with spiritual results...or both?). Most importantly, we want to discuss whatever you would like to bring up, so come prepared to ask questions. Ultimately this class is designed to help you better understand what it means to be the image of God in embodied, relational existence and to navigate that existence in a broken world. This class will be led by Scott Thornhill and Michael Durso. Scott has 10 years of experience as a licensed counselor, and Michael is a counseling intern finishing a degree in counseling.
Aspen Point
Join us at Aspen Point on Oct 19 from 1-2PM! We will be playing bingo and doing crafts, all while continuing to build relationships with the residents. All ages are welcome, and the residents especially love interacting with the kids. We hope to see you there!
Summer Book Study
Join us for a summer book study every other Wednesday, 6:30-8PM from Jun 3 to Jul 29! Bring a snack to share, your favorite beverage, and come ready to talk about “Union with Christ” by Sinclair Ferguson. Childcare for up to kindergarten age is available on request if you sign up.
WHO ARE YOU, REALLY?
Many people in the church today face an identity crisis. But the Apostle Paul had no question about what it meant to be a Christian: he was "in Christ." Recovering this New Testament phrase is the key to understanding our identity and enjoying all the blessings of salvation.
In this book, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson introduces the defining reality of the Christian life—our union with Christ. As we embrace the transformative truth of being "in Him," we can live out of the fullness of joy, purpose, and assurance that the gospel brings.
Hymn Sing
Are you ready to sing? We're gathering together on Thursday, Jun 18 from 6:30-7:30PM for another Refuge Hymn Sing to worship God through the songs that the Church has sung throughout her storied life. Whether you've been part of a tradition that sung hymns regularly or not, this will be a great time for us to come together as a family and join our voices in praise to our great God.
We're going old school with a piano (instead of a band) and hymnals (instead of projectors). Everyone in your family is invited (and encouraged) to join in learning the hymns of our faith but childcare will be provided for younger children as needed.
Sip & Stitch
Have a craft that you can never find time to work on? Want to start working on a craft or learn from someone with more experience than you?
Come join us on the last Saturday of the month from 6-8PM. We will have the Conference Room open for anyone who wants to bring a craft project (knitting, crochet, embroidery, scrapbooking, etc.) to work on while chatting and sipping tea. All are welcome: men, women, and teens!
