Genesis: "In the beginning, God..." this is the start of the entire
Bible. Sometimes we have a tendency to look through the Bible and want
to find out how to be a better person, how to deal with trials, how to
be inspired, how to lose weight...we want to find out about ourselves.
However, the Bible is not a book about us, it is the story of God. We
certainly play a role, but it's not the one we usually think! Genesis
informs us right away that all of creation and all of this story is
God's. He is the creator, He is the author, He is the hero of this
story! The story of Genesis is an unbelievable look into how God
created perfectly and how sin twisted what God made good and destroyed
God's perfect creation. Genesis also tells us the heart of the Gospel,
that this is not the end of the story. That God is building and
reshaping and redeeming and renewing a people that one day, what has
been destroyed will be made new. And as we look back with awe and
wonder, we can look forward with humble confidence that God is not part
of our story, but we are a part of His! Welcome to the book of Genesis.
